Panama SMS numbers: +507 and the portability NIP distinction

Do not confuse a mobile number with a portability NIP

Panama regulator ASEP says the country extended cellular numbering to eight digits in 2005 and that mobile numbers begin with 6. When an SMS4U order shows +507 and its allocated number, use that exact number; a leading 6 alone does not identify a present network or establish an app’s willingness to send a message. ASEP’s portability FAQ describes a different SMS: a NIP sent to an existing prepaid mobile user during an operator-change request, then shown to the receiving operator to validate ownership.

That NIP belongs to a subscriber portability process requiring control of the existing number and terminal. It is not an SMS4U app-activation step. If a service asks for carrier ownership evidence or in-person identity documents, an ordinary application SMS does not substitute for them. ASEP portability processing times and charges are not SMS4U order terms.

Choose the right Panama app product

The live Panama catalog has separate quotes for WhatsApp and Facebook. Identify the sender first, then compare pools, indicative prices and the order timer. Sharing +507 does not make these products interchangeable. English pages show USD reference prices, while the checkout states the CNY debit. These prices are not ASEP numbering allocations.

If you are also reviewing Costa Rica, keep +506 and +507 separate rather than copying a local-format assumption. Panama’s portability process also makes a historical prefix an unreliable identifier of the present operator.

Establish whether a message was actually sent

On a format rejection, compare the eight digits with the order and check whether the country selector already supplied +507. A region rejection is the sender’s rule. If the sender says “sent” but the order shows no message, record the request time and current order state for support. This product does not perform portability NIP validation, identity checks, voice calls or ownership of the number after the order window.
