eBay SMS codes: choose the right 2-step method and fix invalid codes

eBay documents three two-step routes: a push notification in the eBay app, a text message and a one-time passcode from an authenticator app. When setting up text verification, you can choose text messages in Sign in and security and follow the prompt to add a mobile number. A later sign-in to an existing account is different: eBay may send the code to a phone already linked to it. A newly purchased number cannot collect that older phone's text. App push and authenticator codes never arrive in an SMS4U order. Identifying the route first prevents an unsuitable purchase.

For a buying or selling account, the phone is also part of your ongoing security and contact information. A short activation receives messages only during its order window. eBay asks users to update contact details when they change; an expiring number is a poor sole recovery contact.

Order only when eBay can text a new mobile number

If eBay's current form genuinely accepts a new phone, match its country selector and full calling code to the stock below. Obtain the number in the picker, then ask eBay to send the text for this operation. Read the exact number, message and order timer in Active orders. The table is an indicative stock price; the picker shows the live pool, duration and final CNY debit. The US and UK guides can explain their prefixes, but your eBay form and account details decide which region is appropriate.

eBay warns that leaving or going back from the sign-in page while waiting may invalidate an earlier code. Follow the current page's expiry and resend prompts rather than trying an old text after starting again. A used-number message or another security challenge is not solved by ordering repeatedly. If eBay says it sent an SMS and none appears, compare the entered phone, order creation time and allowed resend attempts before taking another step.

Keep a transaction account reachable after today

Completing one phone check does not mean eBay will never verify a later sign-in. An account with orders, payments or after-sale messages deserves contact information you can retain, with app push or an authenticator managed through eBay's official settings where suitable.
