A registration code is not a Signal PIN
Signal says registration needs a number that can receive an unencrypted SMS or a phone call. Enter the number in its mobile app and wait for the text; a call option may appear after the timer. SMS4U receives texts only, so it cannot complete a voice-code step. Before ordering, check that your current Signal screen offers SMS, that you selected the correct country and that you understand how long the order remains open.
A Signal PIN is different from the SMS code. It helps recover some account information and can protect registration, but Signal explicitly says it is not a chat backup. Receiving one text and setting a PIN does not mean you can restore lost conversations or sign in indefinitely without the number. A messaging account you intend to keep should use a number you can continue to control.

Check the actual reason for a missing code
Signal's troubleshooting guide asks users to check the international number format and calling code; in some countries a domestic leading zero should be omitted. If Signal says it sent an SMS, match the exact number against Active orders, confirm that the order is still within its receipt window and respect Signal's resend timer. If no message was sent, resolve a format or rejection warning first. Another order cannot repair a number entered incorrectly in the app.
If the current step offers only a voice call, use a phone you can answer. Some Signal re-registration flows can use an existing device token and PIN instead of a new text; follow the option actually presented. Never share a registration code with someone claiming to be support, and do not attempt to take over another person's account when a number appears to be in use.
Plan for a replacement device
Reinstalling, changing devices or recovering a lost phone can require renewed control of the account number. Registration lock also depends on a PIN and can impose a waiting period if that PIN is forgotten. An activation number may not be available again after its order ends. If you still have your old device, use Signal's official transfer steps for chat history before changing the registered number.
