A new phone confirmation is different from access to an old account

Uber's rider instructions say that changing personal information in the app and saving a new phone number can trigger a text code to confirm that number. This is the relevant case only if you are signed in and the current form accepts a new phone you may enter. If you have been signed out and Uber is challenging you with a code sent to the phone already attached to the account, a new number cannot reroute that earlier account message. SMS two-step verification likewise sends codes to the number used to set it up and may be needed on later sign-ins.

Rider, Uber Eats, driver and delivery accounts can be linked. Uber warns that a contact-detail change on one account may affect another. Before replacing a contact number with a short-lived one, consider future trip, safety and account messages as well as those account links. An account tied to real travel, a payment method or work needs a stable personal contact number. If the old phone is already unavailable, choose a recovery option offered by Uber or contact its official support to update account details. Buying a different number cannot recover a code addressed to the old linked phone.
