Do not treat every OpenAI product as one SMS flow
OpenAI's current help says phone verification is not generally required to create an OpenAI account or use ChatGPT. Some users may be asked for a phone check when accessing Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app. Creating the first API key on the API platform requires phone verification, while later keys do not necessarily repeat that step. A blanket claim that ChatGPT registration always needs a purchased number is therefore inaccurate. If your actual screen asks for email or an in-app confirmation instead of SMS, follow that route and do not order for a text that has not been requested.
Check the product, site address and delivery channel before acting. An extra login check can use a different method. Do not confuse the API platform, ChatGPT and unrelated sites selling “OpenAI accounts,” and do not share a verification code with another person.

Number-type rules matter more than stock
OpenAI says landlines, VoIP, Google Voice and premium numbers are not supported for its phone verification; it calls for a supported mobile number that receives SMS. In selected regions the form may offer WhatsApp instead. An SMS4U inventory row cannot establish whether OpenAI classifies the specific number as supported. If the form rejects the number type, repeatedly resending or purchasing a similar number will not remove that restriction. Use a supported number you control or the official support route.
Only if the actual OpenAI form offers SMS and the country and number type fit should you compare the OpenAI product in this table. The USD amount is an indicative activation price. Check the live pool, expiry, cancellation terms and actual CNY debit in the picker. A WhatsApp-delivered code is not automatically delivered to an SMS4U text order. SMS4U does not receive calls or verify account, organization or payment eligibility.
Keep future access in mind
An API organization, keys and conversation history may matter long after one activation window ends. A temporary order does not promise that the same number will be available for later codes. Maintain an OpenAI-compliant recovery route you control for any account you intend to keep. If a code is still addressed to an old bound number, a new random number does not rewrite that binding; use the official account process.
The US and UK guides describe SMS4U product countries, not OpenAI approval of a number type. Before ordering, confirm there is a real SMS request. Afterwards, separate “number rejected” from “text requested but not received” and check the active order time.
